~SEW HAPPY~

Warning one and all !!! I'm doing this post without my morning coffee....I might say or do anything at this point....Look what greeted me as I headed into my kitchen this morning...Oh girls these things just scare me to death...every time I see one in my house I think its a snake...so back away from the coffee and do what I do best scream my head off for Len to get up and get it...which all he did was chase in under my stove...so guess who'll be eating take out tonight??? No Gecko's were hurt...

Any hoo back to my post...I wanted to share with you my Antique sewing stuff today... I bought this old Singer sewing machine in 1982 I only wanted the base to make a kitchen island with but when I seen the machine I just couldn't bring myself to ripe it apart and now I'm so glad I didn't....

Just look at this olden beauty...could you tear it apart to make an Island....

We had a guy that use to come into our shop to buy scrap metal and his had this on his scrap truck...Oh HAPPY DANCE for me...I gave him $100.00 for it and didn't even know until I got it home it had the sewing machine still inside...Double HAPPY DANCE !!! the cabinet had been painted like 10 times and was a ugly green when I got it...I redid the whole thing to bring it back to tiger oak...Wished I had taken before pictures but that was before my blogging days ha ha!!

And look what else was inside of it all the parts...

And even the booklet from 1924 telling you how to use it...

OMG!! the workmanship they use to put into things....

Can you imagine using this these days...Really would give a whole new meaning to using a "THREAD MILL"

Still have the leather belt....Who would want to sell this for scrap is beyond me....

Now this is my Walking wheel...This was in pieces when I found it in my late FIL's barn its from Kentucky...again he told me if you can get it home you can have it girl...well I bought back most of this in my suit case the rest I had shipped back home...I loved that he had the original leather belt for it...Hey I once went to his house and seen an old high chair from 1908 and again told me if I could get it home to take it...I took that thing apart and did bring it all back in my suit case...Hey who needs clothes when Antiques are calling your name...That high chair still sits in my DR to this day...the clothes would have been long out of style by now ha ha!!

A needle cabinet this is from an olden general store...I'm still finding needles to fill it with...But I love a good hunt...

This is my smallest spool cabinet and spools for the spinning wheel...I see these all over blog land where people have made them into candle holders now...

J.P. Coats and Clark spool cabinet ca. 1910...now these cabinets were also used in General stores and the top of them is exactly a yard long so they could measure fabric on them...This has a leather top for cutting....Well guys I hope I SEW didn't bore you today with my nonsense...Oh and if you guys get a chance today watch Maury Povich's show my niece Desirae and her fiancee are going to be on his show...WOW!! they went to New York last month and Rich finally asked her to married him on a horse and carriage ride it's that romantic sighs...YAHOO!! been waiting for 2 years for that...I always told her to marry a RICH man and she took my advise ha ha!! Hope all of you have a great day...

Hugs and smiles Glria

great!!! I love it all....now I am thinking mine is not such a wonderful peice! lol
can you give me tips how to get mine restored by me? what can I use to shine it up and make it look so pretty like yours? I just used soap and water as I was scared to ruin it!

Wowee Gloria, I've come across many sewing tables, but none quite so beautiful as yours. What beautiful color on the machine! Great job and I'd love to know how you restored it all by yourself! Mercy!

Oh, I do love this cabinet. I purchased one about 25 years ago for $100. I was so excited when I found the handbook, needles and old wooden spool thread and even the attachments for the machine in one of the drawers. It still works great! My hubby couldn't understand why I would want something so old and wasn't even electric!! I have it on display in my living room and wouldn't take anything for it. One day I think it will go to my grand daughter who loves to sew at 8 years of age.

Wow, that's just gorgeous! I hope you can give Tootsie some guidance on her new/old one!

Gloria you have the neatest stuff ever my friend! I just love that antique sewing machine. It is gorgeous! What a true treasure you have for sure.

I think the lizard guy is just precious! I love all animals so much no matter what they are. I'm not sure I would want one running around my house loose though. I don't blame you a bit for yelling. LOL!

Blessings to you today Mom, ~Melissa :)

Hi Gloria! I don't see a gecko! I guess that's because hubby ran him off. One time one of these little stinkers ran up my jeans leg. I was talking on the phone and felt something climbing up my leg under my pants! I threw that phone down and you've never seen anyone come out of their pants as quickly as I did. That little stinker just ran off! I went hysterical! I feel your pain!
Oh, my goodness. That machine is gorgeous! I have my grandmothers Singer and thought it was nice, but it looks generic compared to yours! This is really a beautiful machine. I've never seen one so elaborate.
Now, honey, what don't you have? :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Oh my just what don't you collect Gloria!!!? Love the old sewing machine and all the sewing items. I had a bunch of those old spools and then got rid of them when I was selling stuff for the move. Have seen on several blogs where they use these to wrap their lace pieces on for their crafts and wish I had mine back!!

My foot is great thank you- just stiff which it may be from now on I guess!

Blessings

Gloria, Your little visitor is actually kinda cute, but I still wouldn't want him running around in my kitchen! LOL
That sewing machine and cabinet are both works of art! They put so much thought and care into making them pretty as well as functional! You certainly did a good job on the cabinet.
Come by and see my kitchen- you said you wanted to see more of that red...

That sounds great! I know you will make some really pretty tassels for sure. You'll have to do the Etsy shop thing and then I'll be ordering some from you soon. HeHe!

I ordered a rectangular shaped rug in baby blue and chocolate brown with a scroll "M". I think I'll put it in our master bed or bath. Not sure which one yet. I can't wait to show you!

WoW! You have some wonderful collections, including this one of sewing stuff! Your singer machine is the prettiest I've ever seen. We have one, but it is simple, streamlined. Love yours!

Thanks for the tips on the house tour! If you have any more to offer, I'd love to hear them! I am really nervous...thinking "what have I gotten myself into!" LOL! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Hi darling, I sure hope this finds you feeling better. Be careful and watch those sun stroke symptoms. I've had 2 not fun.. Ok.. geico or not...ick and double ick... I would have screamed... sissy girl or not... ICK!!!
I love your old sewing machine. I have one.. not near the beauty this is. I'm glad you couldn't find yourself to tear it apart. It is gorgeous. I've always wanted a spool cabinet and use it as an end table... way out of my budget then and especially now. You have some beauties here my friend.. Well... I just got home from work and had to swing into tell you hi..time to go in and have a spot of popcorn and unwind... lol miss ya girl... love ya

Gloria, that sewing machine is amazing. The wood is just gorgeous. You really have some of the most beautiful and unusual antiques, I can't believe you brought that wheel home in a suitcase. Wonder what homeland security would have made of that one!!! And that is a really big lizard, I would have screamed too. We just get these little salamander kind here. Hope you are having a great week. Kathy

Ooo...I didn't know those little guys would come into the house. I guess we are lucky in Illinois we just get mice, and I haven't had a mouse in the house in years. I love the spool cabinets. I can't sew a stitch, but your things are certainly in great shape and make a wonderful collection.

Beautiful !

I found 2 sewing machine tables w/the sewing machines still inside in the garbage last Wednesday. They make 3 for me. It amazes me what people toss. Anyway, they have inspired a vintage sewing collection.

What treasures! Gloria, I learned to sew on a Singer Treadle machine. My sister has it now, and it still works!

Karen at Nittany Inspirations said...

You have beautiful antiques. My mother had a treadle sewing machine. I remember playing with it and it really worked. It ended up just getting thrown outside in the woods. She also had a large oak pedestal dining room table. I don't know what happened to that. I hardly have anything of my mothers. I guess we didn't appreciate those things when they were newly out of style.

My mother had a sewing machine like yours when I was in high school taking home economics I used to sew with it all the time. You have some great antiques. I enjoy your blog very much. Have a great day.

SEW PERFECT!!
You were wise to leave the sewing machine as is. It is so beautiful, it only enhances the piece, I agree with you, it would have been like ripping it's heart out.
I love the detail work on both the machine and the cabinet.
All the best,
Eileen

I'm going to have to check when Maury is on! Now as for the antique sewing thngs....you have to know that I'd love them. That needle cabinet is gorgeous and of course the sewing machine is a keeper. You have a good eye, even if you did only think you were buying the cabinet! The spools are pretty unique too.

Ooooo that gecko would have scared the daylights out of me!!!!!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Mornin' Sis...

OMG!!! I'm sitting here still sippin' on my first cup of coffee when I seen that gecko...eeekkkss!!! Just seeing a photo makes me wanna grab my cup and crawl up on the desk! Hehe!!! Girl, I can just hear you now..."LEN, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU LET THAT DAMN THING GET UNDER MY STOVE!!!"...Hehe!!! Pardon the french, but I bet you were speaking alot of french about then! Am I right? hehe!

Sis...I loved getting to see this Singer sewing maching...what a fabulous treasure!!! Ohhh, I can't hardly imagine someone painting over that beautiful tiger oak! Well...not to mention that someone gave it up for scrap!!! What were they thinking??? Oh well, their loss is your gain!!! The ornate detailing on the front of the cabinet is absolutely gorgeous! Ohhhh my goodness...I can't believe the beautiful painted design on the sewing machine itself...I've never seen anything like it!!! Was thinking that the design and colors of the design are really autumny too! You ought to leave it open for awhile! wink! Anyway, it's fabulous!!! I'm so happy that you rescued that beautiful old sewing machine...it almost makes me sick to think of it all crushed up in some scrap metal yard!!!

Loved seeing your spinning wheel too...and all those beautiful antique cabinets for spools, etc! Girl, you just crack me up...I can see you taking that thing apart (and the baby's high chair) just to get them into your suitcase!!! Hehe!!! But I must admit...I would have done exactly the same thing! Well Darlin'...I really, really enjoyed this post today...thank you so much for sharing a few more of your "precious pretties" with us!!!

Love ya, Sis!
Chari
PS...what are you up to today? Girl, it's so cold at my place the heater is kicking on...can you believe that?
