~ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING..BUT NOT MY HEART~

I couldn't let the day past without doing a tribute to my all time favorite idol " ELVIS"...I still find it so hard to believe he has been gone 32 years ago today...I was 13 years old when he became the King of Rock-n-Roll, I had everyone of his records 45's at that time and had my whole room plastered with pictures of him even my ceiling so I could look at him while I was laying on the bed ha ha!! to say I was an Elvis freak is an under statement...I just knew when I grew up I was going to marry him of course he found Priscilla and that changed all my great plans ha ha!! My poor Mama got so tired of hearing my record player going all the time with " Don't be Cruel" I can remember the day he died...just like it was Yesterday...I was working at our shop and it came on the radio and I just froze...Say it wasn't so PLEASE!! I left the shop and when to the Mall to pick up my daughters school clothes I had on lay-away and I swear to God every clerk at Penney's was crying...No one could believe that at 42 Elvis had died...Strangers were hugging and crying together that day...

Now on July 1, 1956 Elvis made his first TV appearance on the Steve Allen show...all day I could hardly wait until 8 pm so I could see him sing " you Ain't nothing but a Hound dog" he sang to a real hound dog by the name of Sherlock...He then made his next TV appearance September 9, 1956 on the Ed Sullivan show and they only filmed him from the waist up...as Elvis had a way of moving that many people thought was vulgar...Can you believe how times have changed...Now if they don't grab their crotch it's not music to this new generation...Oh for the good old days...

Oh!! Love me tender... I couldn't hardly wait to go to the drive in movie and see that picture and I will tell you up until that time my Mama didn't like Elvis but when she seen him in that movie she was one of his biggest fans...On August 16, 1999 I rented everyone of his movies and my Mama and I sat all weekend and watched them all....

I'm all shook up...

Now all of these pictures I got from magazines I bought when Elvis died....

Elvis bought Graceland in March 1957 it was a former Church and he made it into a 23 rooms mansion... Graceland was open to the public in 1982 and to this day 675,000 visit Graceland every year...The upstairs of Graceland has never been opened to the public not even the staff...

Elvis was first buried at Forest Hills with his Mama Glady...but was moved with his Mama to Graceland in 1979 because of people trying to break into his Mausoleum...When his Father Vernon died he also was laid to rest beside him....

He married Priscilla in 1967 in Las Vegas in a private ceremony and had his only child Lisa Marie 9 months later....

Elvis's private Doctor had prescribed over 5300 prescription's and vital to him in the last 7 months of his life...He was brought up on charges for this in 1979...Seems were now going through the same thing with Michael Jackson... Seems times don't always change...Sad but true !! Small world Michael Jackson was married to Elvis's Lisa Marie...

I had this picture taken at the wax museum in Las Vegas in 2005...Oh Elvis " I want you, I need you, I love you with all my heart"...Hoped you enjoyed my trip down memory lane today !!

May all of you have a Great day...God Bless the King of Rock-n-Roll....

Please tell me your feelings and memories about this great American Idol....

Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

I enjoyed reading your tribute to Elvis. I had never heard about him singing to a real hound dog on TV ~ how cute. I was a little young when Elvis first came on the scene, but I still like a lot of his music and own a few of his CDs. My older sister is a huge fan. She is currently in the hospital after suffering a stroke in June. Her family brought a life-sized cardboard figure of Elvis to put in her room. The nurses all get a kick out of that.

I imagine there will be lots of Elvis movies on today. Great post, Gloria.

The TCM movie channel is running some of his movies all day today, and even though I can almost do a running dialog along with some of them, they are on here AGAIN! He was the only King, and no one will ever replace him. Ironically, my cousin's son is a professional Elvis impersonator. I have seen some of them in my time, and have not been even the slightest bit impressed, but this kid could make you cry when he sings, and he was only 5 when Elvis died! BUT he still isn't OUR Elvis and no one ever will be!

R.I.P. Elvis!

Fabulous post, Gloria!!

Grandson Drew was born on Elvis' birthday, 4 years ago, this coming January. While we sat in the waiting room, we sang Elvis songs, all evening! Yep...Drewy is our little "hunk of burnin' love".:-) He wasn't even a year old, when we dressed him up in a little blue Elvis outfit for hallowe'en. He even had his beautiful dark hair combed just like Elvis'.

Wonderful tribute to The King!

I still can't believe it's been 32 YEARS, that just doesn't seem possible. Like you I thought the King certainly needed to be remembered in the blogging universe. Living only 80 miles from Memphis, the coverage of Elvis and then his untimely death was always in the news. He did so many wonderful things for others that will never be known or reported. Viva Elvis!

I have enjoyed the music of Elvis since I have heard it the first time. I did not know most of what you have shared today!...I was born in 1971, and may be a bit young to remember the day he passed...but I do know he was a special person and I do think that the way he passed was very tragic!
Thanks for the post today mom...I love how you have a little of this and a little of that to share with us all the time!
I just did a full day of yard work...in just a couple of hours. I was racing that cloud that has finally hit us. I had barely finished up when the rain started to fall....so I am going for a much needed shower and then do some more house cleaning!

Hi Dear Gloria! What a wonderful post about Elvis! What a talent he possessed! Wasn't he so handsome ~ those eyes! I still love to watch those movies of his. I can remember where I was when I heard he had died. My little family was in the car headed for New Orleans when it came across the radio. We couldn't believe what we heard. I felt so sad and even dreamed about Elvis for sometime after that.
I love that picture of you and the King! It looks so real!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia;)

Hi Gloria, I was thinking the same thing about the similarities in the way Elvis and Michael Jackson died. So many performers seemed to get into drugs and prescription abuse...it's really sad. Elvis was so talented...loved his voice.

Mornin' Sis...

How are you doing this fine Monday morning? We got back home about 7 last night...we had a fabulous time in the mountains...it was so refreshing!!! Got your email and the sweet family photos...thank you, Sweetie! Probably won't get much done today...recuperating from our little camping adventure...hehe! Started thinking about Fall decorating, especially since it was coolish up in the mountains!

Loved reading through your tribute to Elvis! He really was the "KING" of rock-n-roll...I still love listening to his music! He was such a charismatic person...not only was he a "looker" but he was such a nice, generous man as well! I still remember the day of his death...was working and one of our patron's (Bill) served in the same unit as Elvis while they were in Germany. Bill had really gotten to be good friends with Elvis and he just cried and cried when we heard it on the news! It really was such a tragedy and to think Elvis was only 42...that's so young!!!

Well Sis...if we get to go to our Rockabilly weekend in Vegas...we'll be hearing alot of Elvis I bet...and so many will be dressed in that ever popular 50's style! Sure will be fun!!!

How are you doing today, Sweetie? Got any plans for the day?

Love ya,
Chari

Gloria,

My hubby is a big fan of elvis too.
He even kinda looked like him when he was younger!

I love Elvis' Christmas music, and we have made it a tradition to always play his songs at Christmas time.

It was so sad what happened to him, and Michael Jackson too...

I heard that Michael Jackson said that he always thought he would die young and tragically just like Elvis did. He was also a big fan of Elvis too.

I'm kinda suprised Michael and Lisa Marie never have a child together.
Can you imagine what a legacy that child would of had!

Hugs,
Sherri

I must have been 14, Gloria, when I first heard of Elvis. It was after school, and a friend told me about his swivel hips. I couldn't believe it. I went home and turned on the radio hoping to hear him. I, too, waited in anticipation for his above-waist appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. A few years later, music tastes changed and Elvis was history. He never regained the popularity he'd had. Ed Sullivan had The Beatles on his show, as he'd had Elvis, and the nation watched. I was already married when Elvis married Priscilla. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Such irony that their Lisa Marie married Michael J. Some have said that Elvis was haunted by the thought of his twin who died at birth.

I will always think of Elvis on the sixteenth of Aug. Steve and I celebrated our 40th sunday. Elvis one of a kind and there will never be another like him. On the backsplash. I have been in this house for 5 years and it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I see all this blacksplash on others sites and it looked beautiful. But since mothe has been gone I can't seem to stay focused. I have been working on the chair rail and trim in the floyer and its' still not painted. Take care and thanks for stopping by.

Gloria, I don't know how I missed this post! My daddy listened to Elvis constantly, his favorite song was Love Me Tender and he used to sing it all the time (and quite well I might add lol) And I just checked out the video of Josh and Heather- adorable! Is that your laughter I hear in the background? What a fun time. Thanks for the visit, and I may just take you up on that rain dance offer. Tell Len to get his dancing shoes on! Hugs, Kathy

I did a tribute to Elvis too. Not as in depth as yours, but I wanted to remember him also. I am a huge fan. I grew up listening to my Daddy's 45 records...Elvis and other fifties music. That is what start my love for Elvis and his music.I have been to Graceland three times. We went to his 30th anniversary concert in 2007 in Memphis...it was AMAZING!!!!

Elvis has left the building, but NEVER our hearts!!
