What a neat find, Gloria! I would have guessed it to be a holy water bowl, not for baptism but just for dipping your fingers as you enter the church and make the sign of the cross. But either way, I really like it!...Christine

Wow! You have been busy girl!! That is such a pretty piece and think of all the good blessings it comes with into your home! Sorry - this week has been a crazy one for us. My daughter has a pretty good part in the school play tonight so all week it has been rehearsals at the church during and after school and that means parent volunteering! I've been helping 3 different grades get their costumes on and off! Tonight is the big night and then I can breathe a sigh of relief! So I will be back to blogging tomorrow. Thanks for the award - aren't you a sweetheart! I will have to figure out how to post that. And I was lol and so happy that you found your "Inner Peace" and were able to finish what you started! ha-ha! :) Take care. ~ Laurie

Lynne asked my question. Where do you plan to place and what do you intend to do with this amazing piece of statuary. Unless ordination is another attribute you possess that we are not aware of, it won't be for the purpose it was designed. You seem to have a knack for finding the most unusual things. Congrats.

The detailing is gorgeous! I would have thought of the font in the church for holy water. Maybe someday you can have some family babies blessed with this.

Gloria, What a neat and unique find! I bought an altar table and two chairs from a church that was over a hundred years old, and had been closed down for many years from, a friend of mine. It isn't real fancy, kind of primitive, of course handmade furniture, but has so much character! It was going to be thrown away, when she rescued it, then she downsized and had no room for it! Not sure what I will ever do with it (in storage now), but the history was just too special to pass up! ~Your piece is just beautiful! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Hi Gloria - that font is a work of art - worthy of being on display in the Vatican Museum. Maybe you could put a big rock inside the bowl part and use it as a birdbath. Do you know any of its history? Is it an import? The flower design is reminiscent of a metal candle sconce I was given as a wedding gift back in the 1960's--the flower designs have been painted. But the colors are poppy, yellow, green, and blue and the metal is painted white. The most fun was reading how you teased us! Smiles, Fieldstone/Pam
