~I need a 12 step program~

Hello !! My name is Gloria and I'm a Dishalis...Hi Gloria lol!!! Oh Yes!! your my friends so I know I can confess to all of you...ha ha!! I don't know when this happen to me at first it was just having lunch and shopping with the girls and I would just buy one little dish...you know just to remember our lunch date with....Then a tea room opened in town and I found myself checking out the tea cups and pots and thinking what harm could it do to have them to take home and maybe a dessert plate or two after all you need a few tea things just in case someone wants a cup of tea and a pretty plate to set out some cookie with right !!! Then me and my friends started going to the consignment stores you know just to look around and see what they had..... And I would have to buy just a few more....Now just for a rememberance.....

Then I started buy dish sets....

Oh and then the silver hit me and I figured what harm could a few pieces do after all it would look pretty with my dishes.....

I did walk away from these.....I patted myself on the back

Then I started looking at even bigger dishes....

Then I found myself going out looking at dishes myself.... I was no longer just a social dish buyer....I mean what harm could that do right...

I found myself loving to touch them to pick them up and turn them over to see who made them...checking out to see if they were oven proof, dish washer safe etc...I found myself at the grocery store trolling the dish aisle instead of buying food....I found myself hiding the dishes in my food cart under paper towels in case I ran into a friend at the store....

Oh I tried to look at other things when I went out shopping...I did... I swear it did...But I knew it was getting worse...As I was buying more dishes and hiding them in the truck of my car, in the closets, under the beds, under the drapes, Not telling my children about them......Lying to Len about them when he would find new dishes and I would tell him "Oh those old dishes I had them for years" I found myself late at night when he was in bed stalking Ebay looking for more dishes....

I found I was buying dishes for my daughters and grand daughter because no one wants to dish alone....But every time I would go out and see dishes my hands would start shaking and my heart would beat faster...I would tell myself " No Dishes before 5pm" You can be just a social dish person.....Then I seen these and girls I found myself slipping.....I told myself Control Gloria you can do this....After all it's the Holiday's and the first of the month Just breath and walk away "YOU CAN DO IT GLORIA" lol !! But then the dish devil started speaking to me again....Devil said come on Gloria do you really need to buy Christmas present for your daughters you did that for years and look at all that money you wasted on toys they just broke and how about all those Barbie dolls you bought Dawna when she was little and just chewed the feet off of them...so does she deserved a gift now at her age and after all her husband can buy her a gift....And Len does he need that cable bill paid for the month...he did just find with Rabbit ears on his TV before you met him...and the Electric company do they need your money this month ??? You have left over candles from last Christmas that will give you light....And at Thanksgiving you can just make the family Grilled cheese with turkey sandwiches....It almost the same and with the candles lites and on these pretty dishes they won't notice....its almost a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving.....

Oh!! Yes the devil made me do it...Just look at these..

Each plate has a differ farm aninal on them....These are called Farm Toile

Got me a service for 8

I want to Thank my family for now understanding about the Christmas gifts you won't be getting now....What do you mean you want more than a lousy Christmas Card...And don't think I don't hear the whispers behind my back about an intervention and sending me to Betty Ford...and YOU still think I would buy you a Christmas present ??? I promise you I will get help the first of the year lol!!!

May all of you have a GREAT weekend on your side of the mountain....Now I need to check and see if I have enough dishes for Thanksgiving dinner ha ha!!

Oh Gloria, I love those dishes!! Wish I could find some of them.

Okay....here is my dish story from our road trip. You will know I definitely have a little dish addiction after hearing this one. We went to Branson MO. While there we shopped Bass Pro Shop, which is a huntin' and fishin' store!!! They have dishes, too, LOL. I found some flatware at the store, the first day we were there. I was a good girl and resisted, until the last day we were there...yep...I went back and got the flatware. I'll do a tablescape post soon. The flatware has pinecones...don't you think that will be great for Christmas? I thought so...:-).

LOL! I knew it the minute I laid eyes on you! The funniest part is the idea that if we pretend we've had the dishes (or fabric, or knick-knacks) for a long time our hubbies won't mind. I do the same thing. Of course you have to "put them away" as soon as you get home so you can "find" those "old dishes" later!
Hugs,
Dawn

Have fun and I love all your things!!

Gloria, I can totally relate. I am a little OCD about my dishes. In fact, I'm running out of places to store them... thinking about putting shelves in the coat closet as a solution.

The Farm Toile dishes are super cute!

Gloria, you been on the mountain top way to long girl! Yes, I have to admitt that I love all your dishes not matter which one you pull out. We all do; all been thee with hiding our sales, secrets like no one new we had them. But after 40 years you think they would get use to it.
The garden toile dishes are so cute and I love the black and white. Great story too my friend.
Have a great week-end.

Oh Gloria, your farm toile dishes are just toooooooooo wonderful to pass up. Of course you needed them. You are so funny. This year I have bought more dishes than I have ever bought in my whole life put together. It really is an addiction, but I really do enjoy it. I love all of yours, and hope you find many, many more. Have a super weekend. Hugs, Marty

You adorable woman! I think we may be twins..or at least very soon! I am getting ready to put another hutch in the already crowded family room! AND add more storage in the garage. Oh..and another shed! Can I go with you to Betty Ford? I mean..not that I need to..I just don't want you to go alone..is all. :)
We'll talk more as soon as I get home from GW.
HUGE hug!

I meant to tell you that those Farm Toile dishes are about the cutest things I have seen is ages!
Wow! Lucky thing! :):)

Hi Gloria,
How about this? You set a nice table for the Holiday meals and tell the girls to bring their own food ... think they'd go for that?
I saw those beautiful tassels you've been making ... I'll bet you wrap a beautiful present ... the family can pick out whatever they like, PAY for it, and bring it to you to wrap ... what could be better?

Remember that song "If Lovin' You is Wrong, I Don't Want to be Right?" I guess if collecting dishes is a sickness ... I don't wanna be well! Might be a good thing to go into remission once in a while ... I like candlelight, but kinda hard to cook with it! ;)

Have a great weekend, Gloria!

You are a trip! I share the same addiction re: dishes and I have a compulsion to buy stem ware too. Just cannot do it anymore 'cause I don't have the space...but the withdrawal is incredibly painful. I suggest you avoid an intervention with your family and just keep hiding them. :-)

Confession is good for the soul! The dishes are pretty spectacular, however. I think you needed them - after all it's Christmas. Have a great weekend. Sally

Hi Dear Gloria! Oh, girlfriend, I hear you and I totally understand! I love it when you said - you can't dish alone! You're too much! :)
Oh, those dishes! I love those dishes! How cute these are! I can understand why these would call your name. It's a good thing you were close or I may have heard the call myself! :)
Have a blessed Thanksgiving, sweet friend.

Oh my gosh, I am all the way over here half way around the world laughing at this fabulous funny story of a gal who got hooked on dishes. It happens to the best of us, well, perhaps not with dishes per say, but with something in life. For me it started with tedies, then went into vintage ribbons (a gal can never have enough of them around!!), and last year I got hooked on vintage Japanese kimonos. I can not get enough of them, and oh yes, I too have done that, pack the kimono away since I "have had it for soooo long" so that hubby will not mind!! Bless his heart for not noticing! Oh course now that I have said that, I have possibly jinxed it and soon he will start to notice all those new additions to my collections!! Oh me and my big mouth. But girls, I am so glad to read that Gloria and Dawn and others have been doing the same thing with their DH for years!! I am not alone in that. :-) hugs from here, Debby

Oh, Mama Mia... you are a Mama after my own heart! LOL! I am just in so much trouble from dish buying. Mr. Magpie just shakes his head. They are all over the place, but some day all of my nieces and godchildren will have a blast either keeping them or selling that at a yard sale! LOL!

I am no help, Gloria, as I think those dishes are just about the cutest things EVER. I would be cheering your as you bought! LOL!

Love you...

Gloria, your post made me smile as I read how you cant pass up dishes. I could have been that way but I HAD to behave as I knew the dish addiction would get me like it did you. So I went with paper. At least I can hide my addiction in boxes (which I have) under the bed, in the closets, etc. You are too funny!

No dishes before 5pm, social dish person...I just spit Dr. Pepper all over my keyboard! LOL! You definitely made my day with this! I'm off to the grocery store and planning a quick run by the Goodwill...you know, just in case there is a gravy boat that I might NEED. Wait a second, did I just spy the words "flatware with pinecones?" Where? Who said that? I gotta go see now.

Happy Thanksgiving :)

Hugs,
Dena
