~THE DREADED ROOM~

Hello guys, I hope all of you have had a great weekend so far...Now today is Chari at "Happy to Design" Re-do Sunday...It's really called Sunday Favorites...but it gives us a chance to Do Over one of our long forgotten post...Please go by and see Chari and if you want to join in I would love to see a post you did in the past that maybe I have missed and sure their are others that would to...

Now this post I did on January 11, 2009...

Hey girls !!! well here we are at Vintage Thursday already...its seems like I just did this...Please go and see our hostess of all things Vintage and see all the great stuff today..at Suzanne Colorado Lady...http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/ there is always so much great vintage eye candy on Thursday... Now today I thought I would show you the most dreaded room in my house ...YUK!!! its the laundry room girls..Now everyone knows of my love of all things antique and vintage...so why not do the laundry room in vintage look !!!

Now this is a child ironing board from 1920 and a Child's scrub board...I just hung a pair of doll bloomers on it...put some old clothes pins in a granite cup..and doesn't it look cute ??? and look at that sweet little iron...it has a tape measure in it...

Now the soap boxes...these are still full of soap....I got the whole lot at an auction year ago.. The brown bottle is a Lysol bottle..

Now I know you girls still know 20-mule team soap chips don't you?? and of course Oxydol years ago you would get things like a tea towel or a water glass in this soap as a give away...it was so fun then to try and collect the whole set of glasses and the tea towels...they would say days of the week on them..how cool was that?? all we did now at the store is a large food bill....

Now I just love this "Watkins" soap box its from the 1920's and look "lifebuoy" soap remember the movie the "Christmas Story" and that soap ??

Now here we have 2 coal irons, shoe forms, Iron trivets, and of course an old hand pump...years ago those irons would hold hot coal so you could press your clothes...you would have at least 2 irons when ironing 1 on the stove to keep it heated while you were using the other one...tell me women didn't have a busy laundry day then...and we now complain because we have to push a button on a machine to wash our clothes...and then push another one to dry them... Now girls I am waiting for them to invent a folding and putting away machine...then maybe I'll stop complaining ha ha!! never happen...

Another scrub board and a "Hot Iron" these you would heat on a stove again needed 2 to do your ironing with...the Old blue Mason jar turned lamp has old clothes pins in it...and of course more bloomers...

Now girls this is an Gas iron...see that ball on it ... that would hold the gas and the knob would control the gas flow...Oh and the beloved wringer...this piece I still have the original box for..what a lucky day for me when I found this...so many of these wringers the rubber will be rotten on them when you do found them...lookie I even have a Laundry room rug on top of my washer and dryer...and the reason its there is I also have a husband so thinks the top of the washer is a place for him to put his junk..and I don't want my machines scratched up...
you also can see the sock stretcher hanging on the wall..

This is a Glove stretcher...you would use these to reshape your gloves after washing them..

just an old tin sign hanging in my room..just love what it says ca. 1910 and its from Lawrence, Mich anyone out here today from Lawrence ???

Well girls I hope you enjoyed the little tour of my Dreaded room today...I know this kinda thing isn't for everyone...but I do love all things old and antique and love to surround myself with things that make me "HAPPY TO BE" if it makes me smile I bring it home...

Hope all of you have a safe and blessed day...

Hugs and smiles Gloria

What a fun laundry room. I love it. I so enjoyed all the irons and the boxes of soap. I just love to look at all these things. I can barely remember the wringer, but I do remember seeing my grandma using one when I was little. What a fun and great room. Hugs, Marty

Oh no, I actually remember some of those. I think they still sell Fels Naptha soap - it's great at removing stains. I've used the Bon Ami to clean windows & loved it... well, I loved it as much as I could love anything having to do with cleaning windows. Don't they still sell Zud too?

Okay, maybe I should take my OLD, creaky body to bed...

Oh wow, what an amazing collection of laundry day treasures. I love it! LOVE the sock and glove stretchers the most, I think. It's just incredible what our moms and grandmas used to keep their families in clean and cared-for clothes!

Wow, Gloria, that is so cool! I love how you get a feel of the past in your collection. All are fun items to hold and behold. They speak volumes of American ingenuity in the pursuit of convenience! ;-)

Great laundry room -- mine is in the basement . . . and there is no "room" -- it's just a corner where the washer and dryer are. A room would be much nicer. You did a great job!

they still make 20-mule team Borax, and we still use it... the box is a little trendier... but it's the same...

great post... can't believe you got all those "full" of product... you should probably put a little sign on the shelf with them that reads... "for display only"!

Mornin' Sis...

What a fun post!!! Girl, I need to fix up my laundry room...I just love how you've done yours!!! You have the most awesome collections...love seeing all of those old irons! Ohh my, I can't even imagine how much work that laundry day was on those poor old gals! "We've come a long way, Baby!" Hehe! I always love seeing all of your old containers, whatever they may be for! Oh yes, and I'm old enough that I actually remember the goodies that came in the soap boxes...I loved that!!! One of my favorite things that you did to decorate in this darling laundry room is the little bloomers that you hung over the wash boards...that's just the cutest!!! I love it!!! Thanks for sharing this cute post and your laundry room with all of us, Darlin'! And thanks for joining in with Sunday Favorites!!!

Wow, Gloria, did this post bring back memories. My mother had an old wringer washing machine. I even used the washboard when I was first married. I remember the soap boxes. We have it easy now compared to our grandmothers. Have a blessed Sunday. Madeline

Gee, I was expecting a "dreaded room" but what you showed is a cute decorated laundry room, my room is so bad, filled with so much s*&#, stuff, that I would rather sell my first born then have to show anyone, hopefully you have inspired me to get off my tush and clean it up! Thanks for resharing, Sue

Love the laundry room, you did a wonderful and creative job on it. In that room doing laundry would not be so bad... I just love your lamp so so cute.
