~ A BIG THANK YOU~

Change Your Thinking :

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs

His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.

' Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present.

Just wanted to share this with you...It so reminds me of blogging...We each take the time to do post about our family, friends, Deaths, Births, Recipes, Decorating, Pets, Tablescaping, our ups and our downs in life...We all take the time to care and share....We may never meet this side of Glory....And yet we tell you about our lives...And just maybe when we don't even know it we are throwing out an Life line to someone who needs it...I know many a time I have been so down with my life and I can go a Blog that just uplifts me and inspires me to try and be a better person...That will give me the kick start I need for the day...

I started Blogging because I wanted to share my Passion of Antiques with others that I thought might be interested in them...I have gained so much more with all the wonderful people I have met through blogging...I feel like all of you have thrown me a Life Saver and have pulled me ashore...For This I wish to say a BIG Thank you...I feel like I have this Big Family now that prays with me and shares my life with me...

All of you have Blessed me with so much...

May all of you take time to smell the roses today and enjoy the Present...I know I am...

Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

The "thank you" goes to you, sweetpea! I understand exactly what you are saying and mean when you said those things. I feel the same way. Sadness has been our companion for most of the month of May and we are now recovering day by day. I wept this morning for our daughter but I truly felt blessed to still have Jack with me. You've made my day...

Connie

Oh Gloria, such a perfect post. I had hear the story of the two men before, but it gives me reason to pause and think every time I hear it. I think we all need to try to brighten each others day. Life has such a way of not being too pretty sometimes, and a little smile and a lot of love sent someone's way makes even the ugly beautiful. Love ya and thanks for sharing this. Hugs, Marty

Gloria,

This is a post that I am so grateful I read today. The story of the two men holds such meaning. We need to find the beauty in our world today when there is such suffering going on. You put the wonder and joy of blogging in words so well. I don't think you realize you were speaking of yourself when it comes to words of encouragement and fun and your wonderful interest in what is going on in everyone's lives. And your sense of humor is priceless! Your visits to my blog always make me smile!

Thank you, sweet lady, for a wonderful post! :-)

I have a question. How do I get rid of the "Copy the ridiculous made up squiggly word" process?
I want to remove it from my blog and I see you have accomplished this. And I thank you for it!

Hi my sweet little Gloria...This post was excellent and your words on my dilemma ENCOURAGED me! I don't know what has become of pride in a job well done anymore...it seems to be that everybody is out for themselves & the workers have an attitude of take it or leave it...
I have fretted so much & been on the phone trying to get a resolution...
finally, I turned it over to God... He can handle it better than me. We just might take your suggestion of a TV consumer affairs show if all else fails...
Luv ya, ;-) Bo

I have made many friends here on the blogs. I enjoy hearing about their days etc. I was sent an e-mail with the story you just posted. It made me so thankful that I have been blessed many times over by the good Lord. We should all be more upbeat, even when we are down, so as not to bring other people down. Have a great and blessed evening.
